With the start of NHL training camps only a couple of weeks away, Brendan Gallagher is getting set for his third season with the Montreal Canadiens.
The former Vancouver Giant joined the TEAM1040 Bro Jake Show Wednesday morning, and he says he’s very motivated to build on the Habs success of making it to the Eastern Conference Final last season
“By talking to a few of the guys this summer, it was easy to train when you are that close to being in the Stanley Cup Finals and playing for something that you dreamed of your whole life,” Gallagher said. “It makes it easy in the summer to come in to the gym, [train] on the ice, and work hard and try and get better and improve on what we did last season.”
Gallagher’s teammate PK Subban signed an 8-year contract at $72-million dollars this off-season, and he says Subban is the kind of teammate everyone wants to have.
“He’s not going to hid much from you, he’s going to show you exactly what he’s thinking, but he’s a great guy to have on your team,” Gallagher said. “Most importantly, you can tell he’s a guy that wants to win. And those are the guys you want; you want guys that are going to compete. You saw in the Boston series - he shows up and he wants to win and he’s ready to sacrifice for his teammates.”
The Canadiens are also without a Captain heading into training camp, and Gallagher was asked how he’d feel about wearing the ‘C.’
“It’d be cool, but that’s not something you think about. Obviously with our team – we lost [Brian] Gionta and [Josh] Gorges, who was probably the leading candidate to take over the ‘C’ – so there’s that question circling. For us it’s not really an issue. We know the most important thing is going out there and showing leadership, and getting people to follow, whether you have the ‘C’ on your chest or not.”
